Maybe or maybe not so obvious, Happy Medium is our Medium
roast blend. Fantastic as a pour over, French press, Aeropress, or in a drip coffee machine. Happy Medium is our best selling coffee and is the ultimate crowd pleaser!
When crafting our Happy Medium blend, we approached it with the following goals in mind:

• A very balanced flavor profile with noticeable sweetness
• A coffee that can be brewed with various brew methods and still maintain a balanced flavor profile
• A balance of flavors including brown sugar and plum
• A three dimensional profile of: sweetness, fruit, and balance

When we set out to create this blend, we began looking for a coffee origin that would provide us with a coffee that exhibited a noticeable sweetness under a medium roast. After extensive trial and error, we discovered the amazing coffees that were being grown in Peru. As an origin, Peru has all the conditions necessary to produce world-class coffee: high elevation; prominence of good coffee varieties including: Typica, Bourbon, and Caturra; and a quality-focused movement among smallholder farmers, especially in cooperatives utilizing organic farming practices (plant husbandry). For all of these reasons, we decided to use a coffee from Peru as the base for this blend.

The second component of this blend is a high altitude coffee from Colombia, which is a very geographically diverse country producing coffee of exceptional quality. The high altitude causes the coffee berries (and seeds, or “beans” inside) to grow slower, allowing more complex flavors to develop. This coffee has been added to provide this blend with a subtle fruit note - very similar to the flavor of a plum. This ties in very nicely to the sweetness the Peru offers and creates an incredible balance of aroma and flavors in the cup.

Roast Level: Medium Roast TypeFilter Roast - Our approach to roasting this coffee was to craft a roast profile that would produce a coffee which could be brewed across a large number of brew methods and still retain its balanced cup profile. To achieve this, we decided to roast this coffee with an extended drying phase at the beginning of the roast - also known as the "soak method". This allows the coffee to gently absorb the heat into the center of the bean before applying more heat. This method helps to bring out that sugary sweetness and results in a balanced flavor. 


Recommended Brew Methods: Hario V60, Kalita Wave, Beehouse Brewer, Chemex, AeroPress, French Press and all electric drip coffee machines. 

*Like other fruits, coffee is seasonal and we love that! Because of this seasonality, we will occasionally switch out a component for another coffee variety with very similar characteristics. By changing the components with the seasons, we are able to offer the most vibrant coffee flavors all year round, which also allows for importing the freshest green coffee possible.
