Chocolate Fudge | Maple | Strong

KAHA Coffee Roasters has received requests from some of our biggest New England dark roast fans for a coffee that is stronger and darker than our Kia Kaha blend, while still not being bitter or burnt. After much research, testing, and tasting, we are extremely proud to release our New England Blend dark roast!

We set out with an ambitious goal of producing a five dimensional profile of: bold, rich, sweet, full bodied, and strong. The New England blend is the culmination of three outstanding coffee regions including: Guatemala, Sumatra, and Brazil.  Each with their own unique characteristics which produce a truly unique dark roast which we feel is fitting of hearty New Englanders and the affinity for dark roast coffee here in the New England region.

When crafting the New England Blend, we approached it with the following goals in mind:

  • A deep, rich, and bold flavor profile.
  • Strong enough to stand up to Milk, Cream, Almond or Oat Milk.
  • Can be brewed using any drip coffee machine or immersion brewing methods such as the Aeropress, Clever Brewer, Hario Switch, and French Press as well as the Chemex.
  • We wanted a five dimensional profile of: bold, rich, sweet, full bodied, and strong.

Through much trial and error, we tested numerous coffee regions, coffee varietals, and processing methods. What we found was fascinating... The combination of two natural/dry processed coffees and a wet hulled/semi-washed processed coffees gave us the exact characteristics we were looking for! When we started out to create this coffee we never would have guessed these regions and processing methods would work together so beautifully!

The natural processed Brazil Mogiana component brings a maple sweetness, and full body to the blend which was crucial for this dark roast. The semi-washed Sumatra component brings the punch and strength to the blend which was crucial to achieve the boldness and ability to stand up to milk and cream. The natural processed Guatemala component brings a rich chocolate flavor as well as body to the blend and together this three component blend coffee produces what we believe is one of the best tasting and unique dark roasts we've ever tasted!

*Like other fruits, coffee is seasonal and we love that! Because of this seasonality, we will occasionally switch out a component for another coffee variety with very similar characteristics. By changing the components with the seasons, we are able to offer the most vibrant coffee flavors all year round, which also allows for importing the freshest green coffee possible.
