We have been looking forward to the launch of this Seasonal Summer Blend since the Fall! As with some of our past summer blends, this is a Kenya origin coffee, but this year we have the pleasure of working with a direct importer to source an exceptional Kenya AB offering from the Liwani Estate co-owned by Mr. Stephen Kuria & Mrs. Margaret Kuria. The Liwani Estate is located in the town of Solai in Nakuru County, Kenya, Africa.
We had the absolute pleasure of being contacted and visited by a family member of the farming region, Benita Chelagat, to work with us in developing this direct importer relationship with one of the family members of the farm, Peter Kuria, at Solai Coffee!
Having this direct importer relationship with Solai Coffee is important for us because there is a direct link to the family farm, for traceability of the supply chain, knowing the attention to detail with the farming and processing of the coffee is at the highest level, and most importantly knowing that the money paid for the green coffee is going directly back to the community and farm at origin instead of being divided up across multiple entities across a larger supply chain.
We look forward to working closer together with Solai Coffee as we look at the possibility of bringing on Kenyan coffees as a regular offering year-round!
After sample roasting Kenya AA, AB, and PB grade offerings, we felt that the AB had qualities that made it exceptional in our cuppings/tastings. Typically AA grade Kenyan coffees are seen as more desirable, but we found the AB to be much more complex and flavorful than the AA for this current crop. We were also excited to create our own unique roast profile when approaching this particular green coffee bean. Once you taste the Summer Blend with our unique roast profile, we think you will agree that we made the right choice in souring this exceptional AB coffee!
