KAHA Coffee Roasters is proud to release this Direct Trade Espresso from our partners the Granda Family at Siempre Verde Farm in Ecuador! This is our first ever Light Roast Espresso, and we couldn't be more excited for this release!
In our opinion a well balanced, and complex light roast espresso is one of the most beautiful types of espresso shots you can experience. Unfortunately, we feel that many of the light roast espressos on the market are roasted light just to fill a light roast espresso spot in a lineup. With that, some of the resulting espresso shots can have sharp acidity, a sour taste, or be generally unbalanced.
We have been testing coffees for light roast espresso for quite a while, but we promised ourselves we would take our time until we found something great. With the most recent crop from Siempre Verde Farm in Ecuador we found that coffee! The name for this espresso "De La Luz" means "Of The Light" in Spanish which we thought was perfect for our very first light roast espresso offering and honors the proud heritage of the Ecuadorian culture which the Siempre Verde Farm represents.
This most recent crop has amazing floral notes with a pronounced sweetness which is why the tasting note of Floral Nectar is so appropriate for this espresso. The floral notes and sweetness mix beautifully with the bright acidity and silky texture of the espresso for one of the most delicate, complex, balanced, and delicious shots of espresso we've ever had in a light roast!
Our Direct Trade relationship means that this coffee is produced and processed from the farm directly to the roaster instead of passing through multiple parties who take a cut along the supply chain. This type of relationship means that the farm is able to maximize its profits from the coffee, which, in turn, allows the farm to re-invest the profits into human resources, equipment, and other needs to keep the farm running prosperously for years to come!
**Dialing In for Espresso Machines - Light roast espressos can be more difficult to dial-in for your specific grinder or espresso machine than dark roast espressos. We usually find that we need a little bit of a finer grind than most dark roast espressos. If you pull a sour shot, chances are you will need to go a little finer with your grind size.
**Dialing In for Stovetop Mokapot - We usually recommend going coarser than most people do for a stovetop mokapot brewer, around a medium grind size (drip coffee grind size) so that the coffee does not over extract giving a muddy or bitter cup.
